Rachel Davidson Blackwell Wilkes
December 14, 1914 - September 21, 2016
QUITMAN, GA – Rachel Davidson Blackwell Wilkes, age 101, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in Savannah, GA.
The daughter of the late Basil Chandos and Lelia Wade Blackwell, she was a native and lifelong resident of Quitman. Mrs. Wilkes was educated in the Quitman Public Schools and Valdosta State College, and for many years she was the Brooks County Librarian. She was a lifetime member of the Quitman United Methodist Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Leslie Lamar Wilkes, and by her only sister, Louie Glenn Blackwell Johnson (Herman) of Madison, FL.
Surviving are her son, Dr. Leslie L. Wilkes, Jr. and his wife, Ge-Juan; a grandson, Leslie L. “Lee” Wilkes III and his wife, Lisa Albright Wilkes; and two great-grandsons, Connor Albright Wilkes and Davidson Edward Wilkes, all of Savannah.
A private graveside funeral service will be held in Quitman, GA.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Mrs. Rita Slatus and her staff at Buckingham South for the loving care which they extended to Rachel in the last years of her life.
